The Legends League is a unique tournament played by retired high-profile international hockey players who dominated ice hockey in the 20th century, Olympic champions and medalists, winners of the World Cup and Stanley Cup, and members of the NHL Hall of Fame, IIHF Hall of Fame and Russia’s Hockey Hall of Fame. This project also has an educational dimension, seeking to promote ice hockey in Russia (in close cooperation with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, the Continental Hockey League, and Russia’s Ministry of Sport) and across the world (in close cooperation with IIHF and the national federations of the participating countries), and sponsoring charity events.The competition attended by teams of six countries – Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Finland, Czech Republic and Slovakia – took part in the first Legends League season. Moving forward, Canada and the US could also be invited to join the League.
